Community Guidelines

YapRoll · Effective 1 October 2026

What changed in this version. The rules used to be one section of the Terms of Service. This page spells them out in full, along with how we enforce them and how to stay safe.

YapRoll puts you in a conversation with somebody you have never met. For that to work, each of you has to be able to count on the other behaving decently, and these guidelines spell out what that means here. They are part of our Terms of Service, and breaking them can get your account warned, suspended or banned.

They apply to everything you send, post or show on YapRoll: text messages, voice notes, GIFs, reactions, your display name, your profile and your photos. They apply whether or not the other person seems to welcome it.

The rules

1. Children: zero tolerance

YapRoll is for adults only, and nothing that sexualises or endangers a child is tolerated, ever. That includes:

  • any sexual content involving somebody under 18, whether real, drawn or generated;
  • any attempt to groom, sexualise, solicit or exploit a minor, or to arrange to meet one;
  • an account that presents itself as, or claims to be, under 18 for any of those purposes.

We remove such content, ban every account involved without warning and without appeal, keep what the law requires us to keep, and report it to the relevant authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Our Child Safety Standards explain this in more detail.

2. Adults only

You must be 18 or over to use YapRoll. Do not lie about your age. If you think you are talking to somebody under 18, report them with the reason Underage and stop the conversation.

3. No inappropriate content

This is what the Inappropriate content reason in the report form covers:

  • Nudity and sexual content. No nude or sexually explicit photos, messages or voice notes, including sexual messages sent to somebody who did not ask for them.
  • Violence and gore. No graphic injury, death or cruelty, including cruelty to animals, and no threats or glorification of violence.
  • Hate speech. Nothing that attacks, demeans or excludes people because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability or serious illness. That includes slurs, hateful symbols and dehumanising stereotypes.
  • Self-harm. Nothing that promotes, encourages or gives instructions for self-harm, suicide or eating disorders. If you are struggling, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis line.
  • Terrorism and violent extremism. No praising, supporting or recruiting for violent organisations or acts.
  • Illegal goods. No selling or promoting illegal drugs, weapons, or other illegal or regulated goods.

4. No harassment

This is what the Harassment reason covers:

  • threats, intimidation, or wishing harm on somebody;
  • insults, humiliation or bullying aimed at the person you are talking to;
  • unwanted sexual comments or advances, and carrying on after somebody has said no or asked you to stop;
  • flooding somebody with messages. YapRoll lets you send up to 10 messages in a row to somebody who has not replied; after that you have to wait for them;
  • pressuring somebody into sharing personal information, photos or contact details.

Not every conversation will work out. If one is going nowhere, you can stop replying or delete it, and you can always block the other person.

5. Keep conversations private

  • Do not share a conversation outside YapRoll without the other person's consent. That covers messages, voice notes, photos and screenshots of any of them.
  • We also ask you not to take screenshots or recordings of conversations at all.
  • Do not share somebody else's personal information, such as their real name, address, phone number, workplace or social media accounts, without their permission.

Once something leaves the app, we have no control over it. So do not send anything you would not be comfortable seeing somewhere else.

6. No spam, scams or selling

This is what the Spam reason covers:

  • asking for money, gifts, gift cards or cryptocurrency, for any reason;
  • investment, romance or any other kind of scam;
  • selling anything, including sexual services;
  • advertising, or steering people to other apps, websites or accounts to promote something;
  • sending the same message to lots of people.

7. Be yourself

  • Do not pretend to be somebody else, whether a real person, a public figure, or somebody from YapRoll.
  • Use photos of yourself. Do not use somebody else's photos.
  • One account per person. Do not create extra accounts, and do not create a new account after being banned. A new account made to get around a ban is banned as soon as we find it, together with every account linked to it.

8. Your profile and photos

  • Every rule on this page applies to your display name, your profile and your photos.
  • No photos of children, even your own.
  • No contact details, social media handles, links or advertising in your display name.
  • Every photo is checked automatically before anybody else can see it, and a borderline one is checked by a person. A photo that does not pass is removed (see How the rules are enforced).

9. Voice notes and GIFs

Voice notes follow the same rules as text. The GIFs in YapRoll come from KLIPY, a separate service, but when you send one it is your message, and you are responsible for it exactly as if you had written it.

10. Nothing illegal

Do not use YapRoll for anything that is illegal where you are or where the other person is.

How the rules are enforced

Reports are reviewed by a person within 24 hours. When you report a conversation, a copy of its last 20 text messages and GIFs is attached to the report, so the moderator can see what happened even if the messages are deleted later. The person you report is not told who reported them.

What can happen. Depending on how serious a breach is, and whether it has happened before, a moderator can:

  • dismiss the report, if nothing broke the rules;
  • remove the content;
  • warn you;
  • suspend your account for a set time, during which you can read your conversations but cannot search for new people or send messages, and nobody can send messages to you;
  • ban your account, with the same restrictions, permanently.

The most serious breaches, such as anything involving a child, threats of violence, or scams, can lead straight to a ban.

Photos that keep failing review. Each photo removed by review counts against your account, and the steps are automatic:

Photos removedWhat happens
1st and 2ndThe photo is removed and you are told.
3rdA warning.
4thA one-day suspension.
5thA seven-day suspension.
6thA thirty-day suspension.
7th and afterYour account is sent to a moderator for review.

You are always told why. Every action on your account appears under Settings › Account notices, with the rule it was taken under and, for a suspension, when it ends.

You can appeal. Email [email protected] from your account's email address within 30 days of the decision, and we will answer within 14 days. That includes decisions made by the automated photo check. Bans for anything involving the sexual abuse or exploitation of a child cannot be appealed. The details are in section 5 of the Terms of Service.

How to report and block

  • In a conversation, open the menu, or open the person's profile, and tap Report user. Choose the reason that fits best: Harassment, Inappropriate content, Spam, Underage or Other. You can add a note to explain what happened, and block the person at the same time.
  • Tap Block to stop somebody from ever reaching you again. They are not told that you blocked them. You can unblock people under Settings › Blocked users.
  • To report something you saw outside a conversation, or anything else that worries you, email [email protected].
  • YapRoll is not an emergency service. If somebody is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

Staying safe

Most people on YapRoll just want a good conversation. For the few who want something else, these habits help:

  • Never send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency to somebody you met on YapRoll, whatever the story. Asking for money is the clearest sign of a scam.
  • Keep personal details to yourself until you trust somebody: your full name, address, workplace, school, financial information and social media accounts.
  • Be careful about moving to another app early on. Somebody who is in a hurry to leave YapRoll may want to get away from its reporting and blocking.
  • Think before you send a photo or voice note. Once it is sent, you cannot control where it goes.
  • If you decide to meet somebody in person, meet in a busy public place, tell a friend where you are going and who with, arrange your own transport, and leave if anything feels wrong. You never owe anybody a meeting.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is. Block and report them, then move on.
